A Night Passage to the Tortugas
For our first long passage, we cruised to the Dry Tortugas. We took Capt. Joe Hanko to teach us about passage making, navigating the Keys, and how to get the most from the boat. We did 500 miles mostly in light air, so we got semi-comfortable with the Code Zero. We got a cold front through on night #4, which gave us a thorough orientation to winter weather patterns in Gulf Coast Florida. We did two overnight passages, up and back, for which we had fine, but light, weather. These were with full moon and were Jennifer's first times to sail at night and, with the steady weather, she quite enjoyed them. We are very thankful for Capt. Joe's help in getting us up the learning curve with the boat and with cruising. And most of all, we had a really great time.
